cervical length check??

Question

has anyone had an U/S to check thier length? i thought they did at at the anatomy scan which ill be having thursday but i have been having alot of pressure this pregnancy so she wants another U/S to check it. anyone have any idea about this? this is my third baby and by far the hardest ☹

it's not really a routine thing unless your doctor has specific concerns about preterm delivery or cervical incompetence. probably because you complained about pressure, they want to be sure you're ok. I have to get it done every 2 weeks until 24 weeks just in case I need a cerclage to hold the baby in. my last was born at 34 weeks which in reality isn't as dangerous as teeny tiny babies but I want to avoid anymore NICU time if I can.

They checked mine at week 14 and will be checking it again tomorrow at my anatomy scan

there have been studies done that length of the cervix at 20 weeks can determine the likelihood of preterm labor. technology is great. with this they can monitor you closer if you are at risk of early labor and help prevent it as much as possible giving baby a better success rate.

I had them every week after week 15 with my last baby. my cervix with my first gave out and I went into preterm labor at 26 weeks but with bed rest and meds made it to 39 weeks. they were worried it would happen with my second so they kept checking but I was a solid 3 the whole time  :)... they are alittle unpleasant at first but are done fast. normally done transvagally for best results.
