Tampons Stopped Absorbing?

Hi all! I have sort of a strange question. First of all, my periods are extremely irregular, far apart, and often very light. I'm not on bc, but I do have Hashimoto's. Usually during my periods, I only have to use pads. Sometimes I use light tampons and maybe 2 regulars. Usually my periods last about 4 days, but this time, I'm going on day 8. I noticed that my tampons are not absorbing very much, if anything, but when I use the bathroom the toilet and toilet paper are like a crime scene. Has anyone else had this happen? I've just gone back to using pads and my flow is regular/borderline heavy. Its like I'm not really on period day 8, but the tampons stopped my flow like a cork!
