progesterone question

so my obgyn gave me a 10 day script for progesterone (sorry cant spell). i have been having reallu weird periods starting in december. it was really light compared to normal in december. also last longer but figures due to skipping 4 months. my husband and i have been ttc for about a year and a half. but since that period in demember i have not stopped spotting. had a period in january about 5 days before my doctor said to start taking progesterone. so she told me to wait till that period ended and see if i still bleed. if i did give it 2 weeks and start to progesterone. well needless to say it didnt stop. i am not on day 5 out of 10 and i continue to spot while on the progesterone. is this normal. i dont quite know what to expect with this med.
