Finally getting around to my birth story ✍🏻

M

As I’m sitting here sipping on my glass of wine while my beautiful daughter sleeps beside me I have finally decided to write out my birth story..

My daughter was due on the 28th of October 2017, so my due date rolls around and my husband and I are anxious to meet our daughter yet there were no signs of labor in the days leading up and we had a friends wedding to attend the afternoon of my due date so because I had no indication of going into labor we decided to go (Murphy’s Law and all I figured if we went out she’d be more likely to come then if we stayed home and I really wants her to come 😂)

So that morning I drank almost a whole pot of raspberry leaf tea in the hopes it would do something..nothing, then my husband took me out to lunch around the corner at a Mexican restaurant so I figured another old wives tale is spicy food so I ordered spicy nachos and added extra hot sauce, while I was eating not even a few bites in I instantly felt sick 🤢 I bolted to the nearest bathroom and had the worst diarrhoea and cramps..being a first time mum I just assumed it was from the food. So I shrugged it off and off we went to the wedding.

We got to the wedding late due to my bathroom incident but we managed to catch the couple saying I do and got some photos with them. We then decided as I still had no signs of labor to attend the reception, we had dinner and we met some new people that had us in stitches for ages then I started feeling really tired so I asked my husband if we could go home and of course he said yes and we went on our way.

We get home and I instantly got the urge to goto the toilet again so I bolt for the bathroom while my husband goes to get changed out of his suit. I finished on the toilet and just as I’m about to get up I hear a pop and then a gush of fluid pours into the toilet!! I immediately knew what it was so I called out to my husband and told him my waters had broke ( he didn’t believe me and just kept asking me if I was sure!😂) so I got off the toilet to go talk to him and by the time I’d walked from the toilet to our room my pants were drenched! So he agreed it was my waters.

I had tested positive for GBS so I contacted the hospital to find out what the procedure was since my water had broke but I wasn’t yet having any contractions. They requested I come in straight away so they could start me on the antibiotics so as soon as I hung up the phone we started to pack up the car. I was more excited than anything at this point as I wasn’t in any pain which I thought was awesome.. (in my head I’m thinking this labor thing is gunna be a piece of 🍰)

We finally arrived at the hospital at about 8:30pm on the 28th of October my mother who was going to be in the delivery room with me and my husband met us there. They did the test to make sure it was my waters that had broken even though the midwives already knew that’s what it was and then they put the monitor on me to see if I was having any contractions which I was but they weren’t painful and they were pretty sporadic.

They hooked me up to the antibiotic IV and said they’d be back to give me pitocin to get things moving along because my daughter had to come out sooner rather than later because of the GBS. I thought I’d be in labor for ages! So I messaged my sister at like 11pm and told her I was at the hospital and she said she’d come hang out because we all thought it’d be ages before I was actually going to have her.

So my sister arrives and they start me on the pitocin at around 12pm.. and boy did things go from 0 to 100 I went from barely needing paracetamol to begging for the gas 😂 (which I wasn’t using properly because I kept hyperventilating 🤦🏼‍♀️) I was just laying on the bed in a position I was comfortable in then all of a sudden I felt like I needed to poo.. I let the feeling go as I was thinking in my head I don’t have time to poo I’m having a fucking baby! 😂

The urge persists and I turned to my mum and said I think I need to poo at this point she laughs and says you don’t need to poo you need to push!

Then it hits me that’s what my body has been trying to tell me for the last 15 - 30 minutes 😂 so I told her to go get one of the nurses so she’s running down the halls yelling that I need to push! And I swear I’ve never seen nurses come from nowhere so quickly as not 5 minutes before the nurse said to me “we won’t set up the room just yet as it will be a while before baby is here!”

So they begin setting up the room and then they asked me who was staying in the room for the delivery.. initially it was just meant to be my husband and mother but as my sister had just driven all the way to hospital I just said if she wanted to stay in the room she could so she did.

It was almost immediate the relief when I was able to start pushing.. so much so I didn’t want to stop😂 during each pause the nurse would ask me questions at the time I thought it was ridiculous I just wanted to get my baby out (looking back now I really appreciate the midwives offering me things like the mirror, or when my daughters head started coming out they asked if I wanted to feel the hair.. I guess to encourage me so I knew it was progressing.)

Everything was going perfectly and she was just about to come out and the midwife asked if my husband would like to deliver his daughter his eyes lit up and immediately he said yes and bolted to the end of the table to deliver our beautiful daughter Mia who was born on 29th of October 2017 at 2:22am!

She is absolutely perfect 💕💕💕💕
