Long cycles

Sam

My husband and I have been ttc since June. So not quite a full year. My yearly physical was in September and I mentioned that we were trying and since I was there I wanted to talk about my fertility. My periods have never been "normal" and I have had ovarian cyst. When I mentioned fertility, the nurse gave me an attitude and pretty much snapped when she said they won't even look at you for a year. I felt embarrassed and decided not to pursue seeing a gynecologist yet.

Flash forward to January. Still no baby and still frustrated at trying to track my 42ish day cycle...

I called the gynecologist. When I made the appt I half lied and said I wanted to discuss my long cycles. Once at the appt I said "I know I have not been trying for a full year, but I just really want to be looked at".

Her response was great. She said yes typically people should try a year but your long cycles mean we should take a look :) ( I don't get 12 periods a year)

It felt great to be heard! I knew something in my body was off.

My long cycles mean I am ovulating too late ( blood test confirms) so next cycle I will take medication to help me ovulate. I feel hopeful :)

I am writing this to say, ladies you know your bodies. Don't be shy to speak up :) I am happy I did. So here's to March! Praying that this is the month 💕

Other notes that may help others:

Last month was day 20

My periods range from 35-44 days
