Getting induced three weeks before due date!

Elizabeth

Finally some good freaking news. This pregnancy has been the absolute worst. Two visits to L & D triage for abdominal pain/double vision. Unrelenting sinus problems the entirety of the pregnancy which culminated with a wicked case of bronchitis that I could not shake. Broke a rib from all of the coughing and ended up in the ER with horrific chest pain.

Tuesday I hit 35 weeks and really was thinking I was going to be cool until she was ready. What else can go wrong? Got home from work last night and pulled up to our mailbox at our apartment complex. As soon as I stepped on the sidewalk I wish ed out. The entire concrete was covered by black ice and no salt to be seen. Fell hard on my bum and was real shook up.

Anytime you experience trauma during your pregnancy they want to observe you for 4 hours after the event. Just what my husband and I wanted after a long day of work was to trek out to Ann Arbor at midnight. Turns out I was having irregular (non-labor) contractions and in my fourth hour of observation I had ten. They admitted me for the extended observation.

Got to the room around 6 am. Hadn’t had anything besides clear liquid. Unable to sleep because I’m so uncomfortable and hungry. My anxiety started ratcheting way up and I had a nice little panic attack. I wanted to go home, sleep in my own bed, eat real food, and snuggle with my cats.

The nurse that came in was super supportive. She helped me get my breathing under control and assured me that she was going to try to make things better for me. She brought one of the residents in who spoke with me about controlling the anxiety. I finally got to take decent medication for the first time this pregnancy! Ativan for anxiety and Ambien to helpmeet sleep. Felt so good to have the edge taken off!

I was able to sleep a wee bit and a few hours later I woke up to three doctors hanging out around my bed to talk about my high blood pressure. They think it’s gestational hypertension and the safest thing to do is wait until we hit 37 weeks and then induce (they want to prevent it from turning into pre-e). I could have kissed those lovely doctors! I’ll be getting induced on the 27th as opposed to my due date of 3/20! So happy. I spoke with my boss and I think this means that my maternity leave is starting now. I need to get things finalized.

Knowing when they’re pulling the trigger on this really helps to alleviate my anxiety and plan for my family to be there for support.

Anyone else getting induced weeks early?
