thinning cervix

21 week Dr visit today to find out gender. My happiness turned into pure terror as I was told my cervix is already 50% thinned. Dr is prescribing me a progesterone suppository to take for a week and then recheck my cervix with another vaginal ultrasound. If it shows not to help I will be seeing a high risk pregnancy Dr as well as discussing a surgery to insert stitches. Very upset, no issues with my last pregnancy at all which seemed to confuse my drs as to why I am going through it this time around. Have any of you experienced this?

update as of 2/20/18: hey ladies I just wanted to post an update since you all have been so supportive as well as to maybe give others who share this issue some insight on my journey...

Had a Drs appointment today with ultrasound as well as transvaginal ultrasound. I have been on progesterone suppositories for 6 nights and they were checking to see if my cervix was any shorter or if the suppositories we're keeping things where they are. GOOD NEWS the meds seem to be doing there job. my cervix was at 2.5 today! Last week we were a 2.3. while the meds are not intended to grow my cervix they seem to have at least held it where it was for this week. Going back in 2 weeks to see how things are going and they will either keep up the same routine or do an emergency stitch in cervix. prayers and fingers Crossed that we are going to have another uneventful 2 weeks!
