Found out at my 20 week ultrasound that my daughter would be born with a cleft lip and palate. It was so devastating to hear. I couldn’t imagine my child having to have multiple surgeries and countless bullies. It’s hard to hear that your child will not be ‘normal’. We had several ultrasounds and a fetal echo to monitor her heart since she was at risk for heart defects being related to her cleft. Thankfully her heart was perfect and the cleft was the only ‘issue’.

On may 29, 2017 my beautiful daughter was born.

She spent three days in the NICU to learn to eat and she had severe reflux causing her to turn blue a few times. But overall she was healthy and we were happy! She began to light up everyone’s lives and her smile was so contagious!

Then she had her first surgery! It was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. It broke my heart to see her in pain and confused about what was going on but she was so strong and did so well.

She has more surgeries ahead and it will be a long long road but she’s so happy and healthy and growing way too fast. She is a beautiful little soul and I couldn’t have a better hero in my life. She makes our lives so much fuller!

Update #2!

We went to the cleft clinic on Thursday and are looking at palate repair around end of April/early may. She’ll also be getting tubes put in her ears due to fluid behind the eardrum which is common with cleft babies. So surgery is right around the corner! And we typically don’t know how to feel about it until that day comes! Thank you all again for your support and all of the sweetest comments I’ve ever read. You all are beautiful people! Also, I would love to reply to everyone’s comments but there are just so many and that would take forever! Just know I read every single one and they all made my heart melt!!
