would you convert to your partners religion?

Question

my bf is Mormon and I practice Buddhism. we respect each other's choices. however, I know he would like for me to become a Mormon which I don't think is a bad thing but I want to make sure I'm fully confident that it is in my best interest. so my question: what would you do?

Nope. My religion is a huge part of who I am. That cannot change and never will. I hold my beliefs too strongly to ever be swayed from them. My boyfriend is technically Pentecostal and currently learning about Catholicism because he wants to understand what I believe and how I will raise our kids. He has told me that if he discovers that he agrees with Catholicism and can come to believe in it then he will convert. I’ll never ask him to, but if he chooses because he believes in it then that’s great too. So if you believe in your boyfriend’s religion then there’s nothing wrong with converting. But don’t convert if you do not believe because then it’s just an empty promise and doesn’t mean anything. I’d hate it if my boyfriend just converted for me. If he converts that’s between him and God not me and him.

I have my own religious beliefs and so does my husband. Neither of us has any intention of converting. Religion is very personal and it's ok for you and your partner to have different spiritual beliefs.

i am not religious in any way so i would feel a fraud coming into a religion just for my SO but that doesnt mean i wouldnt respect his beliefs! its between the person and their beliefs 💙

I’m a former Mormon, I still go to church while I’m in college, and honestly it’s a huge commitment. This is not a laid back church, it has a lot of strict guidelines. So I’d say if you feel it’s right, then maybe convert but don’t do it just for him. It’s one of the toughest religions to get into, it’s a big time commitment and the rules are really strict

Do your research & really dig. My husband was raised Mormon and he got himself out of it and so did his parents eventually. They learned some really ugly things about it. I personally would not if I were you. Especially if you’re Buddhist, I’d stick with it.
