Is it wrong that my boyfriend had us split the check for Valentine's Day?

So this is technically my boyfriend and I's fourth Valentine's Day (but 2nd year together.. very long story). We're both 19 and go to colleges about 20 min from each other. He drives to see me a lot and pays for all the gas and bridge tolls. We went out to dinner for Valentine's Day, he got me roses, chocolates, and two little gifts. I honestly wasn't expecting to pay but he asked me if we could just pay for our own meal and so I put it on my card and he gave me the cash and paid the tip. Is this weird? I told my friends and they were iffy about it and said that he should've paid since it was Valentine's Day, but I don't know since we've been together for a while.

No. It isn't wrong at all. After spending the money to get to you, and from everything he bought you, it's okay to pay for your own meal. Besides some people (not saying you), make Valentine's day more than what it needs  to be..

honestly ive always hated that whole "the man must always pay" stigma. back when we were dating and whatnot, if i said lets go out for dinner and i had the money, id pay the whole thing. and vice versa. it really doesn't matter to me either way. what matters is the time i spent with him.

No, there’s nothing wrong with it. I paid for our dinner. My boyfriend came all the way from the other side of the city to come see me, so when we went out to dinner I decided to pay. He pays most of the time but I’ve told him that we should take turns, and this time it was my turn. Valentine’s Day isn’t just a day for girls, it can be for guys too. I don’t think it’s a big deal that he asked you to split it. Your friends are overreacting.

if hes a gentlemen in general and does all those things theres nothing wrong with that he must not have much to pay for both but at least he acknowledged you and took you out, and did the best he could. i wouldn't worry about it . move on and continue to appreciate him hun :) .

He will not ask.
You can offer and pay, because you want to, but I was raised knowing a gentleman will never ask you to pay.
If a man doesn’t have money, a man should be honest and that will be more than enough. That’s what my momma always said. Lol.
