The boys are here! Scheduled c section twin birth story

Pri • Fraternal Twin Boys 👶🏻👶🏻 due Feb 2018!!

Finally our moment to share the birth story.

Baby B was breech and was being monitored for IUGR. So we scheduled a C section on the day I completed 37 weeks. I was on the fence about not giving vaginal delivery a try and bring ‘that mom’. Trust me, some of my Singleton parents friends already gave me a lot of advice on how to spin baby b and ways to have natural delivery. It was annoying and definitely discouraging.

But then, my mom travelled from India to help us in the last few weeks and she was all for c section! I know, how cool right. Of course she was looking for what’s best and the easiest for her baby - me! She consulted with my doctor, who said that there are very low chances of baby B moving after week 35 and that she wasn’t comfortable doing a breech delivery of a baby who was already so small. And breech extraction sounded really painful and scary. I made a pros and cons list and a planned c section won!

So this morning, we went in at 6:30. I met with my lovely doctor, the two teams of baby nurses for each baby, special care team for our little Baby B and my wonderful anesthesiologist. Funny thing, two of the nurses and the anesthesiologist were twins themselves. So the jokes kept the mood light.

We started the procedure at 830, with my lovely husband on my side. Getting the spinal block was the only slightly painful or uncomfortable thing. It hurt like a ant bite and that’s it. After that it was such a smooth smooth ride. I felt a little tug and pull when they took the babies out but no pain whatsoever.

Baby A cake out screaming and peeing at a whopping 6lbs and baby B came out, minute after his brother, butt first at a surprisingly awesome 5lbs. The weights looked great and the boys looked super healthy. They cleaned them up right away and brought them closer to my face. We were a family of four within minutes of starting the procedure and we couldn’t be happier.

Rest of the surgery took another 45 mins, they took the two placentas out exAmined them and stitched me up. My doctors were constantly talking to us so it seemed like a team effort! Another 1.5 hours at the recovery room and we were all cleared. My boys didn’t need any NICU!!

It’s been over 15 hours since the delivery and we are doing great. No pain for me whatsoever. Babies are nursing like champs and also getting a little bit of formula to help them fill their tummies as I establish my supply.

So if any mamas here are being discouraged of c section due to any cause or feeling like it might hurt, you have my story to refer to! C section doesn’t make you any less of a mom. Choose what’s best for you and your kiddos!
