Any first words yet?

Question

My baby says “mama,” but only when she’s upset and wants me when I’m not in the room. 
Makes it so hard to let her settle down in her crib and go to sleep at night! Those sad “mama” cries make four or five minutes feel like an eternity. 😭
Does your baby say any words yet? Did they say mama or dada first?

My daughter also says “mama” when she cries but I don’t think she really knows what it means. Either way it’s cute. 😊

I used to teach in a preschool and I’d often go into the nursery on my break to play with the babies. There was a little girl who started using real phrases like “No I don’t want” or “Give me milk” by the time she was 8 months. We couldn’t believe it, but she was just a super early bird! My son isn’t saying anything yet, but he definitely “talks” by making a million different sounds in response to things I say to him, or to express his excitement, so I have hope that he won’t be a mute lol. When I say “Mama” to him he cracks up because he thinks it’s the funniest word🤨

My daughter has been doing this since 3 months. It happened the first time on thanksgiving. I wouldn't count it as a first word or anything like that. She knows yes but that's more like mama dada type thing. Anything she says now is still gibberish cause she's just repeats it without any knowledge. Just keep any eye out on anything she says with meaning. Like my daughter says mama baba when she's hungry which means she wants her bottle.

Most things they “say” prior to a year old are just sounds and have no meaning to them. My daughter is 21 months. And has always said Mamamamama when she cries. She started saying da and knowing she meant Daddy by about 11/12 months.
