Do you generally give your pregnant friends baby gifts that seem to match the cost and quality of what they had given you?

I was the first of a few friends to have a baby, and they gave me useless stuff (stuffed animals, fancy bibs you'd never want to get dirty, etc.). It was nice of them, and it came from good intentions.

Now that they are pregnant, I need to think of gifts to give them (We don't live in a baby registry culture). I can think of so many useful things that I'd like to buy for them now that I have a kid, but I think I should stick with similar stuff they gave me..?
