Pregnant after 1st IUI
DH and I have been TTC 👶🏻 #1 “actively” for over a year but realistically we’ve been trying for 2 years. we just use to say that we were but weren’t trying. A little over a year ago I was diagnosed with PCOS.
When I heard that I had no idea what it was but all I heard the doctor say was, “it just won’t be as easy for you to get pregnant as it is for others.” My OBGYN gave me a card for a fertility specialist and I just shut down. I couldn’t believe it. You spend so much time trying to prevent pregnancy and then here I am finally married and trying to get pregnant and now I’m being told it’s not going to be easy for me.
A few days later, after everything settled I called to make an appointment with the RE. I would have to wait some time because they were booked.
Finally I went in, I was so nervous. They did blood work, interviewed me and scheduled another appointment to discuss my results. Fast forward, my results came back and they confirmed I have PCOS, although I do not have the profile of someone with PCOS, there were some indications that I am not ovulating and in fact struggling with PCOS. From there we discussed all my options and I was scheduled for a hysterosalpingogram.
The results came back all clear. After discussing with my husband he said he wanted to try this naturally using ovulation sticks. We tried for about 5 months and then in December we decided to go to the RE together. We were told that we have two options: 1st, take letrozole, ovidrel trigger shot and Timed Intercourse or we skip right to IUI.
We decided to try timed intercourse but unfortunately that didn’t work. I think in that moment my husband realized thus was more complicated than he imaged and we decided to go for IUI.
Our IUI journey began at the end of January. I took the same medication, Letrozole and Ovidrel. On 02/01 I went in for my follicular sono and I had 3 viable follicles in my right ovary measuring: 20mm, 18mm, 14mm
Once my doctor saw that she scheduled me for my IUI the following day and told me to trigger that same morning. So I ran home and took my trigger shot.
My IUI was 24 hours later on 02/02, truthfully I read everything and still didn’t know what to expect. There was some discomfort but it wasn’t unbearable. I think more than anything it was the buildup that really messed with me plus the doctor had to switch catheters 3 times because she was having trouble getting to the right side.
My husbands wash count was very good which was also exciting to know.
I decided to take the day off to lay low and relax. On 02/16 at 4:54, the RE called me congratulating me on my pregnancy.
DH and I are over the moon. The journey has not been easy mentally, emotionally or physically but it is our story and I am proud of it.
To everyone TTC don’t give up. I almost did and now I am pregnant with our rainbow baby.
I hope that my story helps someone who is TTC and we can start a group chat or supportive woman who are all on similar journeys.
Sending baby dust to all you beautiful ladies! ✨✨✨✨
