Should I surprise my man with the gender of our first baby?

My boyfriend is convinced, due to karma, that he will only have girls. ALL of the wives tales point towards a girl. For some reason I think we're having a boy. We joke about how the other is going to be really surprised when we find out the gender, though neither of us care what gender we have. I will be 10 weeks on Sunday so on Tuesday I scheduled an appointment to do the blood draw for gender (99.7% accurate my dr says). I haven't told him that I scheduled the appointment but we both agreed that we would get it done. Now I originally wanted us to find out together at my 12 week appointment but I keep thinking how surprised he would be if I got him a gift that revealed the gender of our baby once I find out the week after the blood work test. Since this is both of our first baby I am just looking for opinions on if this is a good idea or if we should find out together at the dr.
