Mirena?

My OBGYN recommended the Mirena IUD as a good option for birth control for me. I’m curious for those of you who have it or had it, what did you think of it?

I've had it for almost a year. best thing I've done! it's not the same for everyone so talk to your dr. but for me; no breakouts, no weight gain, no weird cravings, no mood swings, light to no period. my only complaint is when i do have my period, it's light, like almost not even worth a tampon or pad. but it lasts like a week and then spotting for a few days after that. I was already having another surgery when they inserted the IUD, pumped with pain meds, so I cant comment on the pain during the procedure. but it's quick!

Hi! So I have had very regular cycles throughout my life like clockwork and my hormonal balance has been good. However I do have fibroids and heavier periods so I decided to get a hormonal IUD to get that under control. I had my Mirena put in about two weeks ago and insertion did hurt like hell. Its basically childbirth cervix dialation for like 15-30 seconds. Prepare yourself! But its over quickly and I took 800 mg of ibuprofen before which helped after. So I have had on and off cramping and light bleeding since then but I found a few things on rotation that are helping: 
- ice packs (to bring down the inflammation & bloating) one down there, one on my lower tummy 
- a heat pack for 15 mins once in a while to soothe it
-ibuprofen 200-800mg for the first week or so 
- now I take pamprin/ midol because it also has a diuretic for the bloating 
-warm baths
-gentle walking exercise 
-and raspberry leaf tea (known to help shape up uteruses after birth)
I found that caffeine, sugar, and overeating causes worse pain so try to stay away from those! Baby yourself and your womb until it finally accepts the IUD and I think you’ll be ok! Oh also VERY important, schedule that 4 week follow up to make sure it did settle in nicely. 👌🏻 Good luck!
