could I be pregnant

so I've been on birth control (pill) since my twins they are 3.5 yrs old I recently went and changed to a different kind of pill. doctor ordered. is there a chance to get pregnant in between the two pills? I was fertile. we had sex no condom. does it take a little bit for the new pill to work?
