Feminism, Me Too Movement and Sexualization
In light of all the Feminism posts, the Me Too Movement and the constant debate of porn and sexualization.
As a feminist or supporter of the Me Too movement, and putting an end to the sexualization of women, do you see the advertising such as print and media along with the entertainment industry, including porn, as counter productive to the cause? If not explain why. If so, then how do we put an end to the ongoing sexualization of women in mainstream media and entertainment industry? And what are you personally doing to support the cause.
I for one find it very counter productive. I think its an oxymoron, to be a feminist or supportive of the Me Too movement and want women to not be viewed as sexual objects, to continue to support the sexualization of women. Whether it be by purchasing products that advertise by means of sexualization, or watching pornography. It’s proven that sex sells, but thats only because we as the public buy it. Just think of the statement we could make by not supporting products or industries that make billions off of the sexualization of women.
**Update to post:
In light of the conversation and debate within the post, I thought a new question was fitting.
In regards to sexism and the varying degrees within feminist thinking and view points. Do you think women should have any accountability in regards to sexism or the objectification of women? I.E. sugar babies, strippers, allowing use of female sexuality to sell products (perfume, cars, soda), sex workers, gold diggers, women who use their sexuality as power to get promotions, raises and men to do what they want. Are women and should women be held accountable? Does this send the wrong message to men and children? If not then why and how should the line be drawn?
Dont we owe it to ourselves, our gender and our daughters to set the bar a little higher?
