I don't understand why it has to be one or the other, when you get married and have a baby you are partners, if one person has no income then the other steps up, if you both have savings and equal ability to contribute then discuss that. It is your home, your baby, your food, your bills, figure out how to pay them together.

Idk we just live. My money was his and his was mine. Gas needed paid he'd pay it.. water needs paid I paid it. He wanted a shirt I'd buy it, I'd want makeup and he'd buy it. It's way more easy than "splitting" and if I ran out of money and need something he'd get it. If one of us ran out of money the other would make sure they was money in their pockets just in case. I'm a SAHM now so he has 100% of our income and pays for every thing but never once have I felt broke.

Not sure. Depends on how much income you'll be getting from it vs the dad's. I share a joint acct with my husband. Both our paychecks go into it and we pay bills together & whatever's left over, we use towards what's most important 1st.

there is no his and her money. when we got married, we opened a joint account, put both our checks in there, and learned to share an account. All bills and spending comes from one account plus we habe a savings that direct deposit from both of our checks go into every pay period. I personally think that when you're married, your money is his money and vice versa but i understand not everyone agrees

This is something you need to discuss as a couple before hand. Even before we were married my husband and I never were the type to keep track of who pays for what. When we got pregnant with our second we decided that I would work part time so she wouldn’t have to be in daycare and he picked up a second job so I could stay home and if I need money all I have to do is ask. He pays our bills.

When I was on maternity leave it technically wasn’t paid. I had to cash in my PTO and it was only 5 weeks worth. So I still helped with the bills until the money ran out and then we lived off of my husbands pay for 2 more weeks. It’s whatever works for your family.
