Toddler Food

D

Hey everyone! So my one year old doesn't have teeth yet. I've been trying to feed him different food, and so far he will only eat bananas, yogurt, his baby cereal with whole milk, mashed potatoes with cheese, avocado, sweet potatoes, sometimes eggs, refried beans, sometimes pancakes, sometimes meatballs, and chicken in tiny pieces. He also eats those puff snacks that dissolve. His Dr said to replace one of his bottles of milk with a pediashure, so he's drinking that as well. I'm worried he isn't getting enough nutrition. Is anyone else in the same boat? Do you have any food ideas?

My daughter is 12 months and no teeth. She eats pretty much whatever I am eating. I just cut it small so she can self feed. Soft cooked tortellini and pasta, French toast, banana mini muffins ( I break them up.) Little pieces of cheese slices. Steamed veggies if you have a steam basket you can buy frozen bags and steam them, takes about ten minutes. I buy mixed veggies I just cut the green beans up the others are a good size to eat. Home made chicken nuggets... just buy ground chicken shape into a circle or a patty and egg and cover in breadcrumbs and bake. The ground chicken is soft and I also cut them up in small bites. Mandarin oranges in the little plastic containers are also very soft and cut in half easy for them to pick up. Basically whatever you eat just make sure it’s in small bites and if it’s super hard ( like pizza crust or pretzels) skip it.

You can try butternut squash, acorn squash, zucchini, carrots (I cube/slice those and bake them until they’re soft), cubed peaches, nectarines, pears. You can halve or quarter blueberries, cut up strawberries, offer sweet peas (you can smash them with your finger if you’re worried he can’t mash them himself). Cube and bake apple with cinnamon. You can try braunschweiger (liverworst) because it’s soft, contains iron, and is fatty. My son loved that as a baby.

My daughter didn’t get a tooth until 13 months but ate everything under the sun! Don’t forget those little gums are incredibly hard and can mash up pretty much anything. Try some soft baked butternut squash, zucchini fritters, diced fresh fruit, and little bites of whatever y’all are eating! Last night my daughter had Shepard’s pie and this morning she had biscuits and gravy with oranges and strawberries!
