Pregnancy and Exercise Rant 🤬
I’m about 6 months pregnant with my first perfectly healthy and happy baby girl. I’ve noticed that ever since my bump started becoming more apparent, I have been getting a lot of snarky stares and unwarranted comments at the gym. Let me preface this by saying I live in Texas where (no offense to anyone from here), physical activity isn’t high on the priorities list for these southerners (no shade but shade 😑). A lot of the people who workout at my LA Fitness are a bit older (45+) and are still living the lifestyle that women shouldn’t be lifting anything and cardio is king. I have been working out aggressively for 7+ years now. I know what my body can and can not handle. So you coming up to me and asking if I need help putting my 45lb weight back because “you don’t want me hurting that baby” is extremely condescending. I honestly feel like people look at me as if I am harming my baby and it’s starting to piss me off. I don’t know if it’s because of the hormones but I’m giving it till I’m 30 weeks and I might go off on someone. I even had a personal trainer ask me if I’m okay to workout because I’m pregnant. Is that a joke? Are you not a trained professional who knows that pregnancy doesn’t mean you need to sit your ass on the couch and wallow in self pity. Gahhh, anyway... sorry for the long post. I’m happy I have a thick skin and don’t care what others think of me because I could see how some women would be discouraged about working out while pregnant. Anyone else experiencing this kind of negativity at their gym? Maybe I’m just be hypersensitive but I’m annoyed. Anyway Here’s a lil bumpie of me today before I went to the gym and as you can see my bump isn’t even that big! God help me when I’m 9 months and lifting. 😣
