Will they let me sleep?

Question

So before I got pregnant one of the conditions was I would not be getting up to feed the baby at night. I’m bipolar and if I don’t sleep I’ll go crazy and be a danger to myself and others. I’m having a necessary c section and what I’m worried about now is will they let me sleep at the hospital? And can they keep the baby in the nursery because I take drugs at night so I might accidentally smother her.

You need to talk to your hospital. They will definitely wake you up. They wake you up for ANY type of visit to check vitals constantly. It sucks.

Seems like you'd need to ask your hospital. Many places have different polices. They'll need to take your vitals and do fundal massage every 4 hours the first day. My hospital doesn't have a nursery, the nurses will watch your baby while they sleep but they don't do feedings. Who will be doing feedings once you leave?

What about after you leave the hospital? Do you have someone to get up with the baby at night? My daughter is 10 months and I still have to get up with her at night most nights.

no idea, this is a question for your hospital. i had a csection and the baby stayed in the room with me. my boyfriend left the hospital every night and slept at home. i was there for 5 days and the nurses took my baby once for an hour so i could sleep but ended up bringing him back because he was fussy. my baby was on my chest and in my hospital bed the entire time except when i had visitors and they held the baby. i feel like they won't let you just send your baby away because the first few days are important for bonding and no mother gets sleep like that lol but good luck

My hospital allows baby to go to the nursery. But one of my births the hospital was completely full and understaffed and they made baby stay in our room. So you should definitely communicate your condition ahead of time so they can give you necessary support. Also you should have someone with you (your SO, mom etc) at all times when you're holding and feeding the baby to make sure you don't doze off.

Ours had a bassinet in the hospital and ours had a nursery babies could go to. The nurses fed baby when they came in to check on me and hubby was asleep. I had a c section as well so hopping up wasn’t an option
