Period a week early

Hi ladies! I wasn’t sure which group to post this in so I’ll start here. I just got married and I’m on my last 2 weeks of birth control before my husband and I start TTC. I’ve doubled up quite a few times on this last pack of birth control because I’ve been really bad at remembering to take my pills every night. While I’m on BC my cycle is always 28 days, I know exactly when I get my period. Well, my period surprised me a week and a half early this time. I’ve had it since Tuesday the 20th & the whole time it’s been a dark brown color. My period usually turns red the second day but it hasn’t turned red & it’s also been a lot lighter than usual. Like I don’t have to wear a pad or tampon & it won’t leak through my underwear. Is this because I’ve been bad with my birth control??

Edit: I was diagnosed with PCOS last year
