Midwife or doctor?

Question

I recently changed doctors, and this doctor only sees high risk and c-section, so I will be seeing a midwife which I was pretty excited for because I feel it’s a little bit closer than a doctor. But I’ve heard some negative things from family members, and it got me having second thoughts. What your thoughts or experiences with a midwife? Thank you so much in advance!

from this book I've been reading. Doctors are more preventative in their approach and can be kind of anxiety producing, they kind of treat it like a medical condition. Where as midwives more so treat it as an experience that is common and they are more laidback in their approach. I guess it depends on your needs. if you are high risk, deff see a doctor. If you aren't high risk, a midwife might be a better fit.

I love my midwife and agree totally with the other comment. I find my SOs family has no clue about midwives. They were surprised when I said I was still doing a hospital birth and would have an ob jump in if anything goes wrong. I'll be prolonging going to the hospital as long as I can but it's only 5 mins away from my house. really it comes down to being a more personal experience.

as a low risk pregnant person, I'm happily on my second midwife pregnancy. I loved that it was treated as a normal life experience and I was generally encouraged to just keep living the life I already was enjoying. I feel like my time being pregnant was a lot more pleasant than many of my doctor cared pregnant friends experienced

It's all stereotypes I think! You can get a bad doctor or a bad midwife. The place I'm going to you see a different person each time (there a mix of midwives and drs) so you get to know all the different people. They do it on purpose to when you deliver, someone you know will be on duty :)
