dentist? teeth cleaning?

I'm wondering when is the best time to start taking my LO to the dentist? what have you all done to start getting your LO to clean their teeth. my son only has like 4-5 teeth, I've bought him the little banana teether/brush but he doesn't seem to like it. he just bites on it once and throws it aside because it's not food. lol. I'm not sure what techniques to use to get him to use a toothbrush. So any help or advice is highly appreciated.

I haven’t taken mine to a dentist, but I do brush her teeth. When I brush mine she comes in and says “brush”??? So I give her her toothbrush and she pretends to clean them. Then before bed I use a finger brush and a little toothpaste and I give her a good brush. I’ll probably add her to our dental plan when the next open enrollment comes around .

We just took our daughter to the dentist last week. Went fine, they just do a quick check to get them used to it. I found that the little baby tooth paste works well for us, it's a little sweet so she'll actually open her mouth for it.

My lo loves brushing his own teeth and i thought we were doing enough but he’s got some plaque building up on his four bottom teeth that won’t budge. Now I lay him on the floor and pin him down to really brush them, which he doesn’t love but doesn’t mind either. We have an appointment to get the plaque cleaned off in a couple of weeks, which will probably take an army 😳. A good friend of mine just had to have her 3 yo put under yo correct cavities and it cost like $3,000 ($400/tooth for clear caps!)

I started sitting on the bathroom floor with my son to brush my teeth, let him watch, 'help', and hold / play with his toothbrush. He LOVES having his teeth brushed now. I brush his for like 10 seconds (he only has 9 teeth), then let him have a go, then I take over again (whilst he 'brushes' mine), then we rinse the brush & repeat the process (without toothpaste)

I just force my lil man. He used to cry through the whole thing but he is getting used to it and knows its just a few minutes of discomfort.

I’ve been brushing her teeth in the morning and night with toothpaste since she got her first tooth (at around 5 months). It’s part of our routine and she loves it.

In the morning I give my son his toothbrush to "brush" his teeth while I brush mine. He mostly chews/sucks on it. In the evening I actually brush his teeth with a tiny amount of toothpaste, rinse the toothbrush, then give it to him to chew/suck. He is not a fan of the brushing. For a while it helped to have him brush mine while I brush his, but he got bored with that. Right now he mostly just goes with it, though I havw to ask him to open over and over.
I am planning to take him to the dentist soon--should call for an appointment today, actually.

I didn’t take my oldest until she was 5 haha. She had perfect teeth. I started brushing them when she was a baby and don’t have any genetic teeth issues in my family.  My 16 month old has all 16 teeth already and her pedi is suggesting that she goes to the dentist but I feel like all they’d do is put a mirror in and look. At 5 my daughter had x rays...with that said, since my oldest already goes twice a year I might as well have them look at my baby since she’ll be there too.  I use a normal toothbrush on her teeth with fluoride toothpaste. I just brush her teeth like normal.
