Hyphenated Last Names?!

We are doing that. My SO isn't too hot on it,  but he agreed a while back so he's stuck :) We aren't married but will likely get around to it eventually,  it's just not a priority. Even then,  I have no intention on changing my last name. I was married when very young and my ex insisted, I was never happy about it and it took me ages to get rid of completely. I like my last name! But I think it's important, especially for instances such as school, medical,  etc to share the last name of your child,  for both parents. Yes,  there may be a time my kiddo decides to use one or the other for simplicity sake, but that's okay.

If you are married and chose not to change your name, won’t get married or not in a relationship with the other parent, do it so your child can match both of you. If you are just currently not married to other parent but might/plan to I wouldn’t.

Personally, I am not a fan of hyphenated last names. I think it also depends on the names to be combined. My partner’s last name has 9 letters and mine has 7, it would become too long to my taste.
In my country, we combine the parents last names to form the surname of the child (without hyphenating). I am filing a request in the country where I am having my son to see if they are willing to do so.
