I thought these things only happened with incubation

This is a duck egg that I pulled out from the nest because.. that's blood under the shell. It was positioned wrong in the egg and pipped into its blood vessels

And then it shrink wrapped

Meaning the membranes dried and literally shrink wrapped the chick making it impossible to hatch

All of this happened while under a duck. They were under her the whole time. I thought these things only happened because of faulty incubators. It's alive by the way, i got it out and gave it back to its mom.

This is another shrink wrapped chick that I pulled out.

The mom actually tried assisting it herself

Learn something new everyday.

And that it was surprisingly satisfying that the mom duck saw her babies and immediately took them in and took a peak under herself to see them.

After I had taken one egg and brought back a chick, she stopped hissing at me and let me come and go bringing back babies.
