Stay at home mom- telling work?

Guys, I got my husband on board for letting me stay at home for atleast our baby girls first year like I did our son. I love my job & I don't want to lose it. 
I was gonna see about working part time from home or taking a year off and seeing about coming back after, how should I go about talking to my boss? My job is important to me but my kids come first.

Do you know what maternity leave your work offers? That’s probably a good place to start, if you know what leave options might be available to you. I think you just have to be honest with your boss and say that you do value the job and want to come back to it if possible - they will appreciate that. 
I’m hoping to do the same thing. My work allows me to take a year off, but I can only get half pay and have to use all the leave I’ve worked up over the past few years.
