Born at 36 weeks ?

I’m currently 35 & 2, already dilated to 4cm & told she will more than likely come at 36 weeks. Already been given 2 steroid shots for her lungs. Will she need to be in NICU?

My friend had 36 week baby and they'd take baby to nicu to monitor baby's breathing while sleeping. So she could still hold and nurse the baby as usual but then they'd take baby back for monitoring in between nursings during baby's sleepy time. She still got to take him home on time. So even if he does need nicu it likely won't be intensive.

It really just depends on the baby I have a niece who was born at 36 weeks and didn’t have to go to the nicu and her brother was born at 34 weeks and also didn’t have to go to the nicu. They were monitored while at the hospital but that was about it. My niece is a now 6 and VERY smart and her brother is about to be one and excelling at all his milestones.

As others have said, it really depends on the baby, her breathing and her birth weight.  My OB considers 37 weeks full term, and you are only 1 week from that. Hopefully baby is healthy and even if you have a nicu stay, that it is brief.

My niece was born on 36 weeks with 3.4kg and she was perfectly healthy. Just make sure her weight is ok. We were told it shouldnt be bellow 2.0kg.good luck

I had my first daughter at 36 weeks. She was born naturally. And didn’t needed NICU. she 3.8kg and was a good weight. They had no worries. At 4cm I had to be admitted in 8.5 hours later she was born. Good luck.
