Tattoo is itching after 9 months!!???

Question

So I’ve had my tattoo for about nine months and recently it’s started to itch something terrible. It’s on my rib cage and I get bumps on my torso that itch a lot but these bumps are only in the tattoo and seem to follow the lines. I put A&D; on it all the time as well as unscented Aveeno lotion. Any idea what this could be? Can I use any other topical treatment safely? Can I scratch it? Or should I just suffer through it. It’s only black line work.

I think that’s normal cause it happens to all the tattoos I have it’s like I get an itch every now and then only on my tattoos but I don’t have an infection

one of mine does that too, usually my skin is dry and for some reason the tattooed area gets it worse and gets raised or itchy! just moisturize well

I hate this same issue.  I chalked it up to either being slightly allergic because it’s only the black. So once I noticed I stayed away from black out lines as much as I could.  
Either that or bad quality ink. The ones that do for me or some of the ones I got when I was younger and not paying for quality tattoos

Try putting aquaphor on it. That’s what I used for all my tattoos. It’s not greasy like A&D.; I hated A&D.;

Hmm this is odd 🤔 I think mine itch from time to time but nothing severe lol the only time I had an issue it was in a fresh tattoo I got weird red circles that were SOOO itchy, I went to a doctor because my mom said it was ring worm, it was. 🙃 turns out you shouldn’t walk in flip flops with a fresh foot tattoo in the fall. 
I now have to get my foot touched up because the damn infection ruined it.

My very first tattoo used to itch off and on for like a year after I got it done. I don’t. Really know why, maybe they used an ingredient in the ink that didn’t sit well with your skin? I found keeping it lotioned usually made it go away. I don’t have any itching issues with it anymore though and I’ve had it for almost 7 years

Its normal my husband has had his since he was 16 his mom gave permission and hes now 25 and his still itches from time to time i got mine when i was 20 now 25 and mine still itches as well i usually pat it instead of scratching and that helps

That means it scarred. I have a bad scarred tattoo I got when I was 15, I’m 22 and it still itches from time to time ,, really bad lol . I just put some moisturizing lotion on and it stops usually.
