Question

I saw this post on instagram. 
I am unsure if it’s true or fake news, so let’s assume for the sake of the post that it’s real. 
The caption to the post was “what should his punishment be?” (I cropped their details out as their account is private) and a lot of people are arguing on one person’s comment who is praising the guy. 
So i thought I would bring it over to CC to see if you agree.

I don't agree. There's a reason people are innocent until proven guilty. Dexter had an episode where he was about to kill some bad guy and oops, finds out the guy was innocent. Not to mention, and I'm in no way defending pedophiles, but some of those sex offenders aren't really offenders, they maybe took a piss in their front yard and someone saw it. Stupid, absolutely, but not a sex offender. Leave this shit to the courts.

Nah dude. That’s an oddly specific thing to look for and bring justice to. Some peopke get placed on that registry for peeing in public, which is crazy different than touching a child.

People need to stop taking the law into their own hands. 
He could’ve used this information to get law enforcement involved. Instead he’s turned sex offenders into victims and they’re still going to walk free, whilst he’s facing possible sentencing

Those registries don’t say what you did, and definitely don’t provide details. 
My brother is on that registry because he downloaded an “amateur porn” video and the girl in the video was 17. It traced back to a revenge porn thing, then other websites picked it up, and so on. Just because it’s on a website doesn’t mean all ages and consents have been established. 
The fbi leaves these videos out there, to catch more.... and yes, that goes for people drastically younger and down to children ages. They don’t remove every single video and they could use your child (god forbid) as bait if such an awful thing would happen. 
So if it provided details and this dude hurt actual child predators..... I don’t agree, still, because we need our rights... but I also kinda wouldn’t care if they’re truly guilty.

That's wild. You can't just go around beating ppl with a hammer. I don't support pedophiles in the slightest, but these cases need to be left for the law to handle. This man should face charges just like anyone else.

So listen. 
Recently in my area, there was a story released in the news that a man had attempted to kidnap a little girl at a baseball game, and the father stopped him and beat him up. They released his name and everything. The father basically shared his picture, his side of the story, and it exploded from there. 
People began harassing him and his family. He lost his job. He and his family actually had to leave because it was so bad. He earned it though, right? I mean who knows what he wanted to do to that little girl!
Except then the truth came out. Multiple witnesses stepped up and he shared his side of the story.
He hadn’t been trying to kidnap the little girl. Her father had lost track of her, and she got scarred and asked the man for help. He took her hand and was asking people around trying to find her family. The father saw him with the little girl and punched him in the face, left before he could explain, and then went on a smear campaign. 
This man and his family were receiving death threats and were being stalked and harassed by strangers who saw a story on Facebook and thought he deserved it.
So while I understand the anger and wanting to hurt someone who could dare to hurt a child, I’d rather not let a civilian take matters into their own hands
