different sex

I have been with my husband for 7 years now and we've kind of been doing the same things sexually since we started. I do my part to change it up but he seems a bit reluctant to try anything new on his part. I have had back surgery and back problems so I can see why he may feel like he will hurt me but I think I'm vocal enough to let.him know when pleasure turns to pain. any recommendation on what I should do or how to approach it?
