Did you give your older child/children anything when baby was born?

My son is 18 months. I do not know what I would give him, nor do I think he’d understand but I’m curious what, if anything, others have done for the older siblings. 
More than anything, I know he’d like the same amount of attention from me as he’d had his whole life versus any toy. But still- would love to hear what others have done. :)

My son will be 2 and a half when our daughter is born, but he prefers giving people things rather than getting stuff, so my husband is going to take him to a shop before they come see us in hospital so he can pick out something for his new sister and for me so that he gets to give us something he’s chosen when he comes to see us. I know he’ll love that more than getting a present!

We have purchased a baby doll for our daughter. She’ll be almost 18 months when our second is born. I haven’t decided how I want to give it to her yet, but I figured it will help her feel like she has something to do while I’m caring for the baby. So if I change the baby’s diaper, she can change her baby’s diaper.

I have a five year old, and I’m due in August. I’ve been wondering the same thing lol. The baby shower is in July, and we invited all of my friends to bring their kids - so the day won’t all be about the new baby. We’re really making her feel special by getting her “big sister” stuff. She’s chosen the nursery theme , and has been choosing a lot of what we get! I’m just trying to make sure she feels super included! I’m more nervous than her 😂🤦🏻‍♀️

Our daughter will be 19 months when her sister is born and I made her a little basket for when we're in the hospital just to keep her occupied. There are bubbles, a few books, a stuffed animal, snacks and juice, chalk, and a coloring book. I figured it would keep her busy to have something new while others are watching her.

My daughter will most likely be in the delivery room with us lol we are moving 6 weeks before my due date another 9 hours away sooooo there won’t be anyone we feel comfortable leaving her with. That being said we got her a new mini loungefly back pack that we are going to fill with a bag of quarters for vending machines, a new big sister book, snacks, juices, a new stuff animal and maybe some new action figures or a Barbie. That way she’s getting a “present” and will have things to keep her occupied during recovery before anyone can get there to be with her. Our families will be 30 hours away so the likely hood of anyone making it before I give birth is pretty low, but I will be laboring at home as long as possible to try and avoid taking her with us.
