My May baby turned into an April baby! Let me start off with a little background. It’s a long one, very detailed!
On April 16th, at 35+5 weeks, we went in for an appointment with the fetal specialist. He stated that she was measuring small, about 31 weeks, and that he thought my pregnancy induced hypertension was causing her to have growth restrictions. He sent me to the hospital for monitoring and blood work to be sure that pre-e wasn’t developing. After 24 hours of monitoring, a 24 hour urine, and blood work it was determined that I had PIH and was sent home on BP medication.
April 25th I had another appointment. It was to be my preregistration appointment to see what date our tummy birth would be scheduled as baby girl was and always had been breech. He did an ultrasound and though baby girl’s heart rate was good, there was no amniotic fluid left and she did not move one bit during the whole ultrasound. Doc stated that he could not guarantee her safety another week and we must have a baby today. So, off to the hospital we went.
My husband works away and was about 4 hours away on a tug boat. Doc stated that we could try to wait for him to get here but if the situation didn’t get any better then we’d deliver within the hour. After close monitoring for 30 minutes baby girl still didn’t have any movements and no accelerations in her heart rate. She stayed at 150 BPM literally the whole time. I was then wheeled into the OR, all without my wonderful husband.
I get onto the operating table and they tell me that they are prepping for the spinal block. I am told to curl over my baby and tuck my chin to my chest. They numb the area and insert what I assume to be the spinal block. I felt it more on the left side so she had to reposition it further to the right. Once she did that it took literally seconds before I began to go numb. I was completely numb from the chest down within 3-5 minutes. Next the doctor comes in, being very kind and assuring. He’s telling me jokes and saying that baby girl is going to be just fine. Once the doctor is ready they let my mom come in. She sits to my right and begins to stroke my hair, telling me everything will be alright and that Scotty (hubby) will be here as soon as he can. Before I know it the doctor is saying that he’s about to pull her out, so they lower the drape to the clear part and I watch as they pull her out of me. Butt first and all! She is taken to the warmer and cries right away! My 36 weeker is strong! She’s screaming up a storm! They say her Apgar is an 8-9 and she is just perfect. At exactly 6:02pm our girl was born into this world. She weighs in at 4lbs 11ozs and is 17.5 inches long! Teeny tiny bit oh so healthy! Baby girl hasn’t been in the NICU once and is even nursing pretty well, despite being a bit lazy.

Daddy arrived exactly three hours later and he is so ecstatic to be here with us! He said he won’t be going back to work for a good bit of time and his boss will just have to understand that he missed her birth so he will not miss anything else! 💗
