Would you put your daughter on Birth control when her period starts??🤔

okay so a little back story to my question. One day me and my co worker s were talking and one of them said she has her daughter on birth control she was 14 at the time. The other co worker did not have her daughter on birth control and was saying how she trust her and raised her to come to her if she wanted to have sex or thought about sex. So I'm having a daughter if my own and just was thinking if I would put her in birth control as soon as her period starts. What do y'all think??

No.  I started birth control at 15 due to heavy periods and by the time I got off of them in my 30s my cycle was completely crazy and it took me a long time to get pregnant. It's a medication with side effects and you shouldn't mess with a young girls hormones unless necessary.

I will but more for health reasons. Women in my family have very heavy cycles and they can be unbearable. So to regulate things and make her life easier yes. I'll also get her the gardasil vaccine when she's old enough too.

I started my period when I was 8 so unless there’s a medical reason for her to start bc I don’t think I would do that. I started bc my freshman year when I was 14

Hopefully by then birth control won’t have such terrible side effects 😣 birth control caused me so many problems, and same problems happened to my mom. I’m having a girl too and I thought about it, but I’m probably going to have her bring condoms with her when she starts dating (I never trust boys with that shit anymore) and talk to her about birth control. If she wants to get on it then she will.

I think it is your child and strictly your opinion. It is not a bad idea to be proactive and prevent unwanted/unplanned teen pregnancies. I was pregnant with my first at 17, I was already on birth control due to long heavy periods and ended up having kidney surgery and being on multiple meds that counter-acted my birth control.  But moral of the story, sit down and talk with your daughter about what will best fit her needs. I was on birth control for 8 years and was able to immediately get pregnant within 3 weeks of being off of it for this current pregnancy, so birth control does not always cause fertility issues. Everyone parents different. Trust your judgement. Mother knows best! lol

i have a cousin whose dad put her on birth control when she started because someone said it would help control her hormones and make her period not so painful and some other benefits i dont remember. she wasnt sexually acyive until years later any how i think its good to talk to them and maybe even as a preventative measure because realistically i can try my hardest to teach abstinence but we have to realize that they may do it behind our back or might make a mistake or whatever life happens and its good for just incase. i think

Great feed back from all you ladies who have commented , I think every one has different parenting styles , I have along time to think about her and boys and sex but I do want to have that open line of communication because growing up my mom was so strict I was afraid to tell her anything, and I don't want my child to feel like that.

Only if she has a health issue that birth control would help. I don’t want to get my daughter put on it for no reason other than she has a period. If I find out she’s sexually active at a young age  id take her to a gyno and consider it... but I’d definitely not just say oh hey you got a period? Let me add a bunch of hormones to your already hormonal pubescent little body and hope for the best...
Plus there’s a long history of birth control making the women in my family really sick. Like we get legit allergic reactions to hormonal birth control. Like hives and rashes, dangerously fast weight gain, swelling, constant vomiting it’s real bad so I wouldn’t want to risk my daughter going through all that so young.

Yes, but at either 15 or 16, not as soon as they get their period.  Trust is great and all, but what is it that I’m trusting... that she won’t have sex? That’s she’ll talk to me first? I’m all for open communication,  but birth  control is more effective.  I want my daughter to have full control over her life and for nothing to get in the way of achieving her goals.

No. I started mine at 10.  God if my mom had started me than I could not imagine what I be facing. Cancer runs in my family. Both sides.  Breast and others.  My mom has had two kinds.
