baby shower help?

i have a friend offering to plan my baby shower. for my last shower i went all out and did decorations, games, prizes for said games, cakes and cake pops...seriously like the whole 9 yards. i ended up not having a ton of people show up and the ones that did come didn’t seem all that interested in playing the games and mostly just wanted to visit and hang out. it was a co-ed bbq so and i felt like all my efforts were wasted and it was a lot of unneeded stress planning it all and doing everything i did for it and not having anyone be interested in the activities. so my question is would it be rude or inappropriate of me to ask that we just skip the games and all the “other stuff” and just kind of plan a low key get together? is it awful of me to be like “hey, come to a bbq and if you want bring a gift for the baby!” i wouldn’t even have one but we’re having a girl and after 5 boys this is all new for us and like i said my friend offered.
