Kids in delivery room?

Has anyone ever delivered with your kids in the room?? I went on hospital tour yesterday with my family and the guide mentioned children are allowed in the room during delivery if you want. My daughter, 9, was instantly filled with excitement. I would never have thought to do that. They said because we are on an island, HI, away from family (military) they know people can't always find child care. I thought that was neat bc honestly I have been stressed out thinking about asking people to watch her at a random time but I'm still conflicted... Seems crazy.. Has anyone ever done this and if so, how did your kids do? Any regrets?

Im a labor and delivery nurse and have seen patients do this sometimes. 99.9% of the time their child looks terrified and ends up leaving with a family member. You and your SO are not going to wanting to be worried about looking after your child while you’re laboring

I haven’t done it. It sounds awesome in theory, but there are a ton of things to think about. 
Do you think she is mature enough?
Will it scare her? 
Will you be able to focus on yourself or just worry about her the whole time?

My five year old niece asked if she could be in the delivery room, because she wants to see how the baby gets out. I said no, she knows too much already  😂

I was almost 4 when my brother was born (he was a planned home birth) and I was there. I was the first person to hold him and he was definitely ‘my baby’ in my eyes. And years later I trained to be a midwife (UK). To be fair apparently I was very grumpy and put out when I woke in the morning and things were not normal, until my mum told my dad to put me in a party dress because that day was going to be a birthday. His birth was very uncomplicated and I was in my own surroundings, plus knew and was very keen on our family doctor who was also there...(not sure that’s common practice any more!) as well as having met the midwife before at my mum’s appointments. 
Not sure my eldest could cope with being at a birth though. He’s almost 14 and always been terribly squeamish, he couldn’t cope with the small amount of blood he saw when he met his little brother.

I really don’t want my child in my room during delivery, but I might have to because we may not have a baby sitter or anyone to watch my one year old son because everyone will be at the river for vacation 😑. Great timing for this pregnancy, eh? I wouldn’t mind to have my son with me during labor because his cuddles always make me feel better and happy, but my son gets very scared and protective when a doctor even touches me, let alone when I’m pushing a baby out!

I was 9 when my mom had my sister. I was completely terrified and crying seeing my mom in so much pain. I ended up leaving the room :(

My daughter was there last time but shes 17 (was 16 when he was born) and i was so skeptical of letting her go. She wants to be there this time too but i might need her for babysitting lol young children i personally wouldn’t just because things can go wrong and seriously scare them and i would he too worried about them being occupied to concentrate on staying relaxed

I would definitely be prepared to have another adult besides your husband/boyfriend to be able to take her out of the room and watch her if she can’t handle it and or complications arise.
