Raw dog food diet for Fido?

Question

So I thought the raw dog food diet (kind of the caveman diet for dogs) was a healthy option if you could manage it, so I was a bit shocked when I googled it the first thing that comes up is "Raw dog food diets are controversial". Well well, sounds like something for cc on the weekend. Not the most interesting or stimulating debate, sorry but I'm desperate for anything :)

It really depends on your lifestyle and the dog. We tried with our chihuahua and she just puked it up. Our farm dog, a decker hunting terrier, worked great. One big thing to consider is if you have children interacting with the dog and if the dog is a licker. Their mouths carry a ton of bacteria on the raw diet and you do not want your dog licking any faces especially little ones after eating a raw diet. Also, if you are buying raw dog food that is pre done. Not something you went to the store and made yourself, I’ll tell you it’s disgusting the grade of animal used in the meat. We own a cattle farm and the sickest of the animals go to raw dog food. Once we found out we started burying our sick animals. Our dog got very sick once from his pre made raw food and we believe the animal used was ill. I could share some disgusting stories with you. Some may argue the meat in cooked dog food is just as bad but at least the cooking process burns off a lot of the bacteria.

I feed hybrid raw. I feed Fromm dry dog food, and add raw to it. It’s one of the best ways to feed your dog if you do it right.

I think it depends. For some dogs and families it’s a good choice. My friend’s 100 pound German Shepherd is on a raw diet and he’s incredibly healthy and active. There are some things to consider though- like where are you feeding this raw food and how are you sanitizing bowls/mats or the area around where the dog eats. The local butcher we use always has raw food for sale. It’s got all the weird leftover bits of things.

We feed a raw diet in our house, and have for years. We also supplement with high end, grain free, kibble as well. The enzymes and protein they get from it is something you will never get from kibble alone. You do have to be very knowledgeable on what type of raw you’re feeding because some are still processed a certain way and not as beneficial and just kind of a waste of money. My cats eat a raw diet as well. 🤷🏽‍♀️ Never knew this was controversial.

We did it for our family dog for a while, but he stopped eating it after a couple of months. Idk it’s a good idea I think but not for everyone...the owner of the raw dog food store in my town’s dog lived to be 21. My dog is a little poodle though so maybe his wolf taste buds have disappeared

I understand the point of it and I even watched a documentary about dog food, and they touched on the raw diet for dogs. But in our society of mass production, it’s an unsafe risk to take on your dog. There’s a lot more room for parasites, hormones, and additives in the meat produced. Wild “dogs” (such as Akitas or Husky’s) or wolves have a lot stronger stomachs that could easily manage a raw diet. However dogs that are pets and domesticated, don’t have the same stomachs. I just wouldn’t risk it.
My friend even specially ordered fresh raw meat for her dog, and the poor thing was sick for days.

I do dry food as the base and mix with either wet dog food or coconut oil. 🤷🏼‍♀️
I don’t have enough money to keep up with the amount of food my dog eats if I did a raw food diet lol 
I make sure her dry food focuses on meats at the main ingredient though with vegetables and fruit as the second and than the other stuff. No grain, so extra sugars, etc.

my dog eats anyfood we put in his bowl. but if your dog is used to eating normal bag dog food i would suggest slowly introducing the raw food into the normal food to seenis they will eat it first, and to make sure they don't react negatively to it
