Forced to wear makeup at work?

The company I work at has surprised me yet again. I came to work late yesterday. (Which I NEVER do.) I forgot me and another coworker had switched shifts, but as soon as I woke up I booked it there. I wasn’t wearing any makeup, and I hadn’t straightened or curled my hair, I just brushed it.

Our area leader was there once again and told me that I needed to work on my “fashionability.” I asked her what that was, because I wasn’t dressed badly. I had on leggings, (which we sell and we all wear), a cute tank and a cute anorak jacket on. She said I didn’t have any jewelry on. Ummm BS.

I asked her if it was just jewelry and she said “just make sure your overall appearance looks good. Throw on some mascara or some lipstick and it’ll totally transform your look!”

Bitch what.

After she left I asked my store manager about it and she actually agreed with her, even though there are days she never wears makeup and looks worse than I did on that particular day.

What really irks me is the fact that I am self conscious about my appearance when I don’t wear makeup, because I always get “you look sick” or “you look tired” so I almost always wear it. But the ONE day I don’t, because I was LATE, and their asses are lucky I even showed up, I get that backhanded comment. Ugh.
