Okay but why?
I really want to know why almost every straight person I encounter thinks that like only 5 people exist that are LGBT+. 
Like, it’s actually pretty common to not be cishet. People are understanding themselves better, understanding that sexuality and gender identity isn’t as concrete as we were previously brainwashed to think, and society is slowly allowing us to exist in open spaces. 
Naturally more people are going to be more comfortable identifying in the LGBT+ community. 
Idk why cishet people find that to be an issue, or feel the need to question that.

I think people are being more open of who they are. Some people may have felt a way but were never comfortable with it until now with the big steps forward the community has taken.

Yes 100% and it annoys me so much. I’m pan and I’ve known that my entire life, way before it was seen as cool. I’ve had a few people who tell me they’re bi and never had any interest in anyone who was the same sex. Plus I remember one of them making a joke about her being as “straight as a line” I looked at her and said “I thought you were bi?”, she just straight up told me she just was trying to be cool. There was someone else who pretended to be straight, gay, bi, ace, trans, non binary, and everything you can think of on a day to day basis. Later she told me she did it for attention. If you are questioning your identity I fully understand but I hate when people claim they’re something they aren’t for attention or to “fit in”.

It really depends on what you define as a “trend.” You could either be talking about
A) that more and more people around the world are identifying as LGBTQ than ever before, which is a demographic fact
Or
B) be implying that people are just “hopping on the band wagon” of being LGBTQ to be edgy and cool
For the record, I agree that it is a demographic trend, that people are identifying as LGBTQ more, often because people feel more able to be themselves, but I disagree with the implication that people are just doing it to be cool.

I mean I definitely have had some of my straight friends make jokes about being gay and stuff and I just look at them like ????? but generally no I don’t think it’s a trend. I think people just are less scared and have access to more info

Seems like it. I had some nut case tell me she was LGBT+ because she just took up S&M; with her boyfriend. This was at a pride parade last year.

My parents are on the brink of disowning me, my family will ostracize me, I will lose a lot of friends, and I may be ostracized from many business ventures, my church will probably kick me out; but I’m definitely doing this because it’s part of a trend.
