When leaving the hospital...

Question

I am 37+4 weeks and a FTM. I got a check list of things to pack for the baby but I was wondering if something's are mandatory. Obviously I know the car seat is but what about, socks, mittens, and a beanie??? Can I just bring him home in a onsie??? It gets pretty hot here so I don't want to over dress him if I don't have to. I have all the stuff if I have to but is it all necessary?

Other that what others already commented, a lot of people don’t realize that when taking your baby home you need to keep a hat and socks on them regardless of how hot it is. A onesie is fine but babies can lose their entire body heat through the feet and the head.

The only thing that Is mandatory is the car seat and that you know how to put the baby in it. Everything else is your decision. My hospital provided blankets and hats (plus diapers and formula) I brought sleepers, mittens, and cute matching outfits with hats, blankets, and sleepers etc. but you bring what you want.

I think the best way to go is to ask your hospital. I don't know where you're from, so even if I tell you what the hospital told me to pack (I was given a checklist), it might not apply to you.
