Contractions, will I know??

Question

This properly sounds silly, but will I know when I’m having contractions? 39 weeks today and have had very dull period like pain off and on but I’m a FTM and worried I don’t know what contractions feel like so won’t know if having them.

Same 😑 and then people say “trust me you will know” but what if we just so happen to be that small percent of women who barely feel pain or they just feel like minor cramps 😂😩

I was told by the nurses that I seem to have a high pain tolerance.  I definitely knew when I was in labor.  The contractions get closer together and much more painful.

Nothing can stop real contractions. No bath, ball bouncing or laying down will make them go away.

No answer but FTM over 39 weeks and dull/moderate period like cramps here too! But that’s pretty much it! I feel your pain not knowing what is what haha

This is my fourth pregnancy and each one has been different. People say you will know but sometimes you don’t. I’m 37 weeks and I still don’t know which pains are labor or just pregnancy pains.

You'll know!! They're very intense and very regular. If they're strong and only 5 mins apart GO IN! try using the free app called "full term" to help you track your contactions. This will be useful when answering questions in L&D; as well!! Good luck!!

Most people know.  My SIL was one of those who did not know (very mild contractions)...but her water broke early on...so that is how she knew.
My last two deliveries were fast.  I woke up to go to the bathroom.  On the way back to bed had a strong painful contraction.  Then went right into a pattern of them coming every 1.5-2 minutes.  I walked around at “at least a 5” for a week and was told it would go fast when active labor kicked in.
There is a lot of variation...that is for sure.

I've been having the period type cramping on and off and very strong Braxton hicks or actual contractions randomly. I had one almost every hour yesterday! I'm not sure but I'm never able to time them however there very uncomfortable! I was just checked on Friday and I'm not dilated/effaced nothing! I'm hoping these are making something progress ! I get checked again this Friday I mentioned it to dr. He said it's my body practicing. 38+1 today

A contraction is when the tissues of the uterus tighten & push your baby down to open your cervix. They are hard & you have no control over them. Think about doing bicep curls over & over. Your muscles will start to hurt the more they work. 
Try not to fight them as you’ll make it harder for yourself, try to stay as relaxed as you can. Also oxygenated red blood cells will boost your strength & feed the muscles making them hurt less, which is why slow breathing is so important. It’s an annoying quote but as they say ‘you’ll know the difference when you feel them’.
