Pregnant and urine testing.

I’m 28 weeks pregnant and every time I go for a visit they have me do the usual pee in a cup thing. I got an email today from my doc saying “good news, your urine test showed negative for a bladder infection”.

I responded “that’s great, but why was that even being tested...I showed no symptoms and didn’t think I had one”. I haven’t heard back.

To my knowledge they’ve never done anything else with my pee besides test for protein. I have no other test results on my medical history from it.

To me is seems like a gouge for extra insurance money. Is this routine? I don’t remember it being done with my last pregnancy, but that was a different provider.

She also wants me to do a 24 hour urine collection to test for preeclampsia. I had it with my first pregnancy, but this time around my BP has been perfect and there is never any protein in my urine. So this test seems unnecessary.

What do you guys think??
