New BC user- is this normal?

I’m 19 and I was diagnosed w PCOS when I was 15. My family doctor had put me on Metformin HCl, and I’ve been taking it since. About a month ago, my gynecologist put me on Alesse BC as well, to start on the first day of my cycle. So the first day of my cycle last month was normal - it was heavy. But right after I started the BC, my flow became very light. My period lasted 8 days (not odd for me) but after that, I continued bleeding literally all month; so lightly that I just considered it to be spotting. Some of the spotting was heavy, some was light.

About a week ago, the bleeding completely stopped and I’m on my second cycle of BC. I was supposed to get my period three days ago, but I haven’t yet.

Is this normal when you first start taking birth control? Is my body just trying to adjust to it?

I would really appreciate some insights. Thank you!
