can you have an lh surge and not ovulate?? if so, how likely is it?

so I had a positive opk. could I not ovulate and still get a positive on that?? how likely is it?? I'm still learning about these tests. just started doing them today.

Absolutely! Happens to me actually. I have gotten my peak OPK on Clearblue Advanced and my doc has been able to confirm with blood tests that I haven’t actually ovulated (measures progesterone levels). Unfortunately, an LH surge does not necessarily mean you ovulate. I personally knew because my period would be very very late and has skipped a month on more than one occasion even after a positive OPK. Unless you are pregnant, you should always have you period after the luteal phase (I think average is 10-16 days). So a good way to know if your positive LH is accurate around time of ovulation is count the number of days between your positive and period. Hope this is somewhat helpful, good luck and baby dust!
