Changing pills

So I was on a generic brand birth control pill, lupin. My doctors than prescribed me, orsythia. She told me to finish the lupin pack and than start the orsythia pack. It's the same dosage and everything as the pack I had before. I just started the orsythia pack tonight starting the 21 day active pills and than 7 day sugar. My question is, is my birth control still just as effective as it is taking it anytime just because I started a new pack and it's the first day of the sugar pills. I know when you start birth control they say to make sure to use another form of contraception until after 7 days but I was already on lupin for a month. I had sex tonight and want to make sure I'm protected. Hopefully someone read through all of this and couple provide me with advice! Thanks :)
