Crying around strangers

This is a recent development and I’m not happy about it! We had friends over for a dinner party last Saturday and as soon as the husband said hello to our son he immediately started crying. He was absolutely fine with the wife, though. The same thing happened the next day when we visited our neighbors and our son cried when the husband said hello.

I’m really hoping this is just a phase. Our son is generally very happy and easygoing with everyone. My husband is a very involved and loving father so I’m not sure where he got the idea that men are scary. Is anyone else dealing with this?
