Feel like my little guy should be feeding more
This is my second time breastfeeding; I did so with my first son for a little over a year and am starting a new breastfeeding journey with my 10 day old little guy. He latches pretty well and we’ve been doing well overall but I worry he’s not feeding frequently/long enough and I’d love insight from others on this.
When we were in the hospital (ie when it was just colostrum) he’d nurse 10-15 minutes per side per session. Now we’re falling into this pattern of every 2-3 hours (usually closer to 3) 7-18 minutes total (whether one or both sides). He’s averaging 10 poops/pees a day so obviously something’s getting through...
I guess I might be comparing this too much to my first son, who nursed every 1.5-2 hours for 20-40 minutes total (God bless him, that was the norm for months and cluster feeding was worse!). I’m just worried I’m not providing enough but I can’t make him nurse longer, even by burping/undressing him to wake him up when he stops feeding. The doctor wasn’t concerned at the first checkup and had us schedule the next one for 2 weeks out (which is now a week from tomorrow) so I might be worrying for nothing.
Any thoughts or insights would be appreciated! Unless you just think I’m crazy, in which case perhaps you can skip commenting 😜
