Is it ok to use a lap belt on an infant carseat?

My husband bought a ford ranger extended cab and the back seats only have the lap belts not that shoulder belts. Can you still put a carseat in this truck? Sorry if this is a stupid question.

My fire department has free installation, just call them. We have 4 kids so we are pretty experienced with carseats by now, but they still catch little errors here and there.

Your car seat manual should say how to install with a lap belt, lap and shoulder belt, or latch system. 
And I second the recommendation of having it installed or inspected by a professional.
