Does it hurt to to get an IUD?

I am scheduled to get an IUD inserted on Thursday. I am nervious of the procedure. What can i expect? I've heard bad things about the IUD but i want to try it because we are all different and react differently. Did your partner feel the strings?

It hurt for me. I got a copper iud and the first time I went in the lady was not very nice or gentle with me. When she used the metal “vagina opener thing” I felt a pop in my pelvis and she kinda just jabbed her fingers in me and tried shoving the plastic stick through my cervix to measure my uterus for abt. 10 min before telling me my cervix wasn’t big enough and I needed to take medication and come back. I felt so violated and uncomfortable. I wanted to cry. So I took the medication and went back a week later. but this time I had just started my period day of and I had a different lady.she was super nice and gentle and told me everything she was gonna do.i Barry felt any pain and definitely didn’t feel the “pop” I felt last time. I didn’t even realize once it was in. However I’ve had this for about 5 months now and because it’s the cooper one and doesn’t have any hormones in it, I get super heavy periods that can last 10 days with horrible cramps. However for me I can deal with it cause the Benefits outweighs the negative

I know that my experience was a little out of the ordinary but I didn’t feel anything! Make sure they use an anesthetic gel and that you take your pain meds before and that should help with the cramping. As far as after, everybody reacts differently but I only had one day of cramping that was bad enough for me to take pain meds, other than that some water and a heat pack worked well. As far as the string, my doctor recommends that it be left a little longer that way it can sort of wrap around the cervix and therefore it has a lower possibility of stabbing your mans junk. So far I haven’t had any problems. I personally think that men can only “feel the string” of you tell them that it’s there and that there’s a possibility it will poke them because they overthink it but that’s just my opinion🤷‍♀️

Fine when putting it in,they use anasthetic gel to numb everything down there, all I felt was a push and then they said it was done so that was good. The next 2/3 days I had cramps but it was expected (they do warn you) so I just took painkillers for a few days. It's all good though, and VERY much worth the 5 years I'll have mine for!

It’s painful, but not in the way that I expected. For me, the actual procedure felt like a CRAZY amount of pressure, but nothing sharp or sudden. The woman doing it was also really great, she talked me through everything and helped me stay calm. I will be honest, the rest of the day after that was very miserable, I actually drove myself to get a dress fitted and then home, which I do not recommend...have someone drive you. I opted for the copper IUD because my body doesn’t react well to hormones, so my periods have been more dramatic with cramps, bleeding and length since getting it. 
HOWEVER all that aside, it is completely worth it for me. You don’t even realize it’s there except for periods, and the peace of mind it brings is wonderful. Especially combined with the facts that it lasts upwards of 12 years and periods eventually return to normal, I would do it all over again.

Mine just felt like bad period cramps was over in seconds but i also had a kid. My husband doesn’t feel my strings and I can’t even feel my strings most of the time.

Definitely take 4 Advil an hour beforehand and bring a water bottle with you because you’re gonna want to lay on that table for 5 mins after just decompressing and drinking water

i’m good with pain but that shit HURT. i took ibuprofen beforehand but it didn’t help at all. Maybe it’s because i have a tilted uterus

my one friend describe it as "receiving birth" cause her cramping and everything got so bad. 
my sister on the other hand said it was just some light cramping and didnt really hurt. 
its different for everyone lol. i myself have never had it.

putting it in wasn't too bad but I was 6 weeks postpartum so I don't think they had to open my cervix much. the cramps afterward were awful though. Felt like I was dying for about 24 hrs.

It just feels uncomfortable! But your partner can feel the strings especially with different positions
